The Simple Definition

A crypto signal is a data-driven alert that informs a trader of a potentially interesting market condition โ€” a potential entry point, exit point, or risk management level โ€” on a specific asset at a specific time. A signal is NOT a guarantee, a recommendation, or financial advice. It is a structured data output from a systematic framework, delivered in a readable format.

Signals can be generated by humans (discretionary traders who publish their analysis), by algorithms (automated systems that scan markets for predefined conditions), or by hybrid approaches that combine both. The V23 ZHC system is algorithmic โ€” no human decides when a signal fires. The Pine Script engine on TradingView detects the condition and a Cloudflare Worker formats and routes it automatically.

What a Signal Card Contains

A well-structured signal card contains the following data points โ€” each one is an educational data point, not a directive:

  • Asset: The perpetual contract being referenced (e.g., BTC-PERP, SOL-PERP)
  • Direction: LONG (bullish) or SHORT (bearish)
  • Timeframe: The chart timeframe on which the condition was detected (15m, 30m, 1H, 4H)
  • Entry zone: The price range at which the setup was detected
  • Targets (TP1/TP2/TP3): Levels at which partial or full profit might be considered
  • Invalidation: The price level at which the original thesis is no longer valid
  • Conviction score: The engine's confidence rating for this setup (e.g., 9/12 in the ZHC model)
  • Signal grade: A letter grade summarizing signal quality (A+, A, B+, B, C)
EXAMPLE SIGNAL CARD (Educational) ๐ŸŸข LONG ยท BTC-PERP ยท 1H Entry zone: $94,200 โ€“ $94,800 TP1: $96,100 (+1.5%) TP2: $98,400 (+3.7%) Invalidation: $92,800 (โ€“1.5%) Score: 9/12 ยท Grade A FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE.

Systematic vs Discretionary Signals

Discretionary signals come from a human analyst who looks at a chart and decides to publish an alert. These are subjective and vary based on the analyst's mood, bias, and expertise on any given day. Systematic signals come from a rules-based engine that fires the same way every time the same conditions are met โ€” no emotion, no recency bias, no ego.

Systematic signals have one major advantage over discretionary: consistency. The rules that generated a signal six months ago are the same rules generating a signal today. That makes the framework auditable and improvable over time โ€” you can look back at every signal, identify what worked and what didn't, and refine the rules based on data, not feelings.

"A signal without a systematic framework behind it is just an opinion with a timestamp. The framework is the product โ€” the signal is just the output."

How to Evaluate a Signal Service

Before subscribing to any signal service, these are the questions to ask โ€” and the answers that should concern you if you don't get them:

  • Is every signal published with an invalidation level? If no, the service cannot calculate a real win rate. They cherry-pick winners.
  • Does the service provide a verifiable track record? Not "we've had 80 wins" โ€” actual logged signal history with entries, exits, and P&L.
  • Is the service registered with a regulatory body, or does it clearly state it is NOT? Most signal services are not registered advisers and must disclose this.
  • Does the service disclaim past performance? Any service that implies historical results predict future performance is either ignorant of the law or lying.
  • Who operates the service and are they contactable? Anonymous signal providers have zero accountability.
